    Description

Antique JW Fiske weathervane in the form of famous racehorse Ethan Allen. Missing front leg, rear foot, tail, support bars, directionals. Many bullet holes and bullet dents, he was shot at for many years atop the barn he lived. Originally would have been completely gold gilt painted, now is left with a beautiful burnt caramel copper patina with areas of verdigris. Cast iron head is completely weathered, some spots of old paint throughout, as well as some seam separation. This weathervane is around 140 years old and definitely shows it’s age, but is at the same time one of the most beautiful pieces of art you will ever come across. Anyone who is familiar with JW Fiske’s work knows he set the standard for high end ornamental fixtures, and made the finest weathervanes available. The last photo is of this model horse in one of Fiske’s early catalogs. Measures 23” long without tail and 17” tall.
