    Description

A beautiful galloping horse weathervane!  I recently purchased this from the estate of a very wealthy family in Ohio, along with many other items from their estate as the family was downsizing and the heirs didn't want all the possessions.  I'll also be listing a cow weathervane and copula, so check out my other listings.
This horse is most likely from the 1890's through 1910's, and is made of copper that has a patina (verdigris) color to it.  It was originally gilded gold, so that it would sparkle on top of the horse barn.  Some of the gilding is still present.  The condition is very good, and I've taken pictures of the soldering along the edges that has become lose or is missing, which is common for vanes of this era.
There is a lodged lead bullet on one side of the body of the horse (pics. show this) that caused a protrusion on the opposite side, but the bullet didn't completely pierce the body.  This is common as weather vanes were favorite targets for young shooters.
    Measurements approx.:
    31-1/2" from tail to hoof
17" high from extension pole into holder to top of horse head
13-3/4" high from front bent knee of horse to top of head
    1" thick
The vane slides on and off a custom-made iron stand that is 32" x 4" and it also swivels on this stand. I have looked at other vanes online and can see that this is the same mold that was used for other vanes from the 1890's as the features are the same, down to the points of the horse's mane detail.
I'm always happy to answer questions or take addl. photos for serious inquires, so please feel free to ask.  Thanks for looking!
