1893 Westinghouse Electric Wurts Lightning Arrestor Rod Catalog Antique Original

Description

This is an original antique 1893 catalog on Lightning Protection Equipment issued by the Westinghouse Electric and Manufacturing Company of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.   This catalog is an oblong booklet format of 32 pages plus the covers measuring about 8” x 5.5”.  The front cover is titled “PROTECTION From LIGHTNING” and the title page reads:
The Wurts Non-Arching Metal Lightning Arrester for Alternating Currents – Westinghouse Electric & Manufacturing Co., Pittsburgh, PA
This catalog has an introduction dated February 1893 so thus the date and perhaps an indication this catalog was issued for the 1893 Chicago Columbia Exposition World’s Fair (although I don’t see any specific references to the WCE).  This catalog is illustrated with a diagram and a couple halftone illustrations showing the Wurts Non-Arching Metal Lightning Arrestor and has detailed information on these lighting protection devices along with several pages of testimonial letters from power utility companies, railroads and others that used the product.  Wurts refers to Alexander Wurts who was 19th century pioneering inventor and holder of patents on lightning protection equipment who worked with Westinghouse.
This catalog is an original antique issued in 1893.   The catalog is fully complete.  The staples have rusted resulting in a small bit of rust staining around the staple areas not affecting text.  There are a couple small spots on the covers and some toning to the covers and small bit of what looks like silverfish activity along the bottom edge and right edge of the front cover.  The inside pages are in good shape and overall condition is good for this antique original issued in 1893.  Email any questions.  Thanks for looking.
